Position Overview

The Computational Biology Grad Intern will work with the Precision Medicine Computational Biology team to analyze single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data in clinical settings.
You will collaborate across interdisciplinary teams to advance data analysis pipelines and develop computational methods that drive insights into disease biology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze single-cell and spatial transcriptomics datasets for clinical and research applications.

  • Test and optimize new algorithms for accuracy and computational efficiency.

  • Expand and refine in-house data analysis pipelines for single-cell and spatial omics.

  • Integrate advanced computational tools and technologies to enhance understanding of disease mechanisms.

  • Write maintainable, robust, and flexible code for data processing and analysis.

  • Present progress, findings, and methodologies effectively to scientific teams.


Basic Qualifications

Applicants must meet Amgen’s graduate internship eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.

  • Bachelor’s degree completed from an accredited institution.

  • Currently enrolled in one of the following programs:

    • MBA (for MBA internship)

    • Master’s (for Master’s internship)

    • PharmD (for PharmD internship)

    • Ph.D. (for Ph.D. internship)

  • Must have completed the first year of the respective program before the internship begins.

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited program after the internship concludes.

  • Must not be employed at the start of the internship.

  • Must be physically located in the U.S. during the internship period.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with single-cell and spatial omics technologies (e.g., CosMx, Visium HD, Xenium).

  • Understanding of the drug discovery and development process.

  • Strong programming skills; experience with CUDA, GPU computing, and parallelization preferred.

  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git).

  • Ability to collaborate in matrixed, cross-functional scientific environments.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning frameworks, including experience with foundation models.
