Job Overview:

As a Coding Specialist II at Fortrea, you will support global clinical data management projects by overseeing Thesaurus Management and ensuring the accurate delivery of medical coded data in compliance with client specifications, project timelines, and quality standards. You’ll act as a technical expert for dictionary coding activities and collaborate across functional teams to ensure data integrity and consistency.


Key Responsibilities:

Medical Coding & Project Support

  • Independently perform clinical medical data coding for assigned global projects.

  • Serve as project coding liaison and provide project-specific coding status updates.

  • Review and contribute to:

    • Data Management Plans (DMPs)

    • Dictionary Coding Conventions

    • Coding Specifications

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders: clinical, data management, programming, biostatistics, drug safety, etc.

  • Ensure consistent and quality handling of coded clinical data from setup to project closure.

Process Improvement & SOPs

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of:

    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    • Work Instructions (WIs) within the coding function.

  • Identify areas for process and efficiency improvement and implement changes in assigned projects.

Dictionary Verification

  • Perform dictionary verifications of:

    • Fortrea standard dictionaries

    • Client-specific dictionaries

  • Conduct dictionary verifications on assigned studies.

Training & Research

  • Maintain technical competency through ongoing internal/external training.

  • Support the team in achieving internal and client satisfaction through timely and accurate medical coding.

  • Stay updated on literature and research technologies relevant to global thesaurus management.


Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or related field

  • Alternatively, a certification in a related allied health profession (e.g., RN, medical/lab tech)

  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education

Language:

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)


Required Experience:

  • 3–4 years of relevant clinical data management experience

  • 2+ years of experience specifically in clinical data coding using MedDRA and WHODrug

  • Proficiency with coding tools like:

    • Medidata Coder

    • Central Coding

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Clinical trials, data management, and regulatory guidelines (ICH, GCP)

    • Standard Coding Dictionaries

    • Thesaurus management process

    • CRO-pharma industry relationships and obligations


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MedDRA Certification

  • Knowledge of Fortrea systems, SOPs, and organizational structure


Key Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on data quality and regulatory compliance

  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams


Work Environment:

  • Remote or office-based depending on employee location

  • Standard office hours


Travel Requirements:

  • Travel: ~5%

  • Overnight Travel: Approx. 50% of travel time

  • Travel Destinations: Varies by project requirements
