Coder – Profee OB/GYN (E/M & Procedure Coding) – ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS

Job Overview

A healthcare operations organization is seeking a skilled Medical Coder – Profee OB/GYN to accurately translate clinical documentation into standardized medical codes. The role focuses on ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding for Evaluation & Management (E/M) and procedural services in OB/GYN specialties.

This position plays a key role in ensuring coding accuracy, compliance with healthcare regulations, and timely processing of medical records within defined turnaround times.

Experience Required

1 to 2 years of experience in medical coding (OB/GYN, E/M, or procedure coding preferred).
Fresh graduates with strong medical coding knowledge in Life Sciences or Paramedical streams may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately convert medical diagnoses and procedures into ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

  • Code OB/GYN medical records with focus on E/M services and procedural coding.

  • Ensure coding turnaround time (TAT) is met consistently with high accuracy.

  • Review assigned input volumes and prioritize coding tasks as per team lead guidance.

  • Maintain coding quality standards in alignment with client-specific and regulatory guidelines.

  • Collaborate with Team Leads (TLs) and Quality Analysts (QAs) and incorporate feedback effectively.

  • Participate in weekly QA discussions and team meetings.

  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and security of patient health information.

  • Adhere strictly to organizational compliance and information security policies.

  • Meet productivity and accuracy benchmarks (target accuracy typically 95%+).


Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy, especially OB/GYN.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems.

  • Ability to interpret clinical documentation accurately.

  • Strong analytical and attention-to-detail skills.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

  • Time management and ability to meet tight deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Life Sciences, Paramedical Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, or related field.

  • Exposure to E/M coding, emergency department coding, or procedure coding.

  • Familiarity with healthcare coding tools and encoders such as:

    • 3M Encoder

    • TruCode

    • Optum systems

  • Basic understanding of EHR/EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
