Position Summary:

Establish and deliver advanced clinical pharmacy services in the Critical Care unit. The role includes developing evidence-based policies, participating in multidisciplinary rounds, educating healthcare providers and patients, managing drug therapies, and enhancing overall pharmaceutical care. Supervises pharmacy technicians and ensures accurate medication processing for optimal patient outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage a dynamic pharmacy service in the critical care unit

  • Develop and apply evidence-based policies and procedures

  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical rounds

  • Provide drug information to patients and healthcare professionals

  • Educate staff and patients on pharmaceutical care practices

  • Monitor patient drug therapy and make clinical recommendations

  • Participate in research and educational initiatives

  • Supervise pharmacy technicians during medication processing

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and pharmaceutical regulations


Education:

  • Required: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution


Experience:

  • Required: PGY-1 residency plus 1–3 years of relevant hospital pharmacy experience

  • Preferred: PGY-2 residency in Critical Care


Licenses & Certifications:

  • Required:

    • Active New Jersey Pharmacist license

    • New Jersey Immunizing Pharmacist license (within 6 months of hire)

    • Board certification within 12 months in one of the following (as applicable):

      • BCPS, BCCP, or BCCCP (Critical Care)

      • BCPS or BCIDP (Infectious Disease)

    • BLS and ACLS certifications (within 6 months of hire)

  • Preferred:

    • PALS certification


Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong computer proficiency

  • Effective time management

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

  • Capacity to work on feet for extended hours (4–8 hours)


Occupational Hazards:

  • Potential exposure to hazardous drugs, needles, cleaning chemicals

  • Risk of musculoskeletal injuries without proper lifting technique
