Certified Phlebotomy Technician II – Float Pool (Los Angeles, CA)

Job Summary:

UCLA Health is hiring a Certified Phlebotomy Technician II for its Float Pool team. This per diem position offers the opportunity to work across multiple premier locations including Ronald Reagan Hospital and Santa Monica Hospital. Ideal for professionals skilled in phlebotomy and lab workflows, this role offers a chance to contribute to cutting-edge care in one of California’s top healthcare systems. The compensation is $30.30 per hour, with variable hours and shifts based on operational needs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy for inpatients and outpatients across all age groups

  • Triage lab samples and verify all relevant documentation

  • Centrifuge, aliquot, and preserve samples as needed

  • Enter and verify patient data and test information into the system

  • Generate and affix specimen labels; route specimens to appropriate departments

  • Prepare samples for transport to referral laboratories

  • Complete documentation for sample draws, rejections, test additions/removals

  • Perform inventory checks and monitor laboratory workflow

  • Participate in rotation for weekends and holidays


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT II) licensure in California

  • Experience in both inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy

  • Familiarity with lab systems and electronic medical record platforms

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy

  • Ability to work variable shifts including:

    • 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM

    • 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM

    • 8:30 PM – 5:00 AM

  • Availability for rotating weekends and holidays

  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills
