As a Billing Rules Associate, you will play a critical role in resolving client billing issues, optimizing claim formatting logic, validating payer requirements, and improving billing rule engine performance to ensure accurate healthcare claim submission processes.
This role requires professionals who possess analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong communication skills while working in a fast-paced healthcare technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
Healthcare Billing & Client Case Resolution
Resolve complex healthcare billing and claim-related client cases efficiently.
Provide timely updates and maintain professional communication with clients and internal teams.
Troubleshoot billing rule discrepancies and identify root causes affecting healthcare claims.
Analyze healthcare insurance claim formatting requirements and billing workflows.
Handle multiple client escalations while maintaining service quality and turnaround timelines.
Billing Rules Engine Management
Understand and configure billing logic within athenahealth’s billing rules engine.
Translate payer guidelines and client requirements into structured billing rule logic.
Validate payer-specific claim submission requirements through documentation and direct payer interactions.
Recommend and implement billing rule updates aligned with compliance standards and operational best practices.
Document payer requirements and billing logic using standardized internal processes.
Healthcare Claims & Compliance
Become a subject matter expert in healthcare claim submission standards and payer formatting requirements.
Design quality-focused solutions that improve billing accuracy and claims efficiency.
Ensure healthcare billing workflows comply with payer policies and operational guidelines.
Develop and execute test plans to validate billing rule changes before deployment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with developers, analysts, and operational teams to deliver high-quality billing solutions.
Participate in process improvement initiatives and retrospective case reviews.
Contribute to knowledge-sharing, internal learning programs, and team training activities.
Support continuous improvement in healthcare billing operations and knowledge management systems.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification required.
Experience Required
5–7 years of professional experience in a fast-paced operational or healthcare environment.
Prior experience in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is mandatory.
Experience with healthcare claims processing, payer guidelines, or medical billing operations preferred.
