Role Summary

The Associate II – Scientific Education is responsible for:

  • Supporting adoption and conversion of surgeon/hospital trainees to Phacoemulsification (Phaco) as the first-line treatment for cataract surgery

  • Conducting Surgical Observation Reports and wet lab instruction for existing cataract surgeons transitioning from ECCE and SICS to Phaco

  • Training non-cataract surgeons in Phaco procedures and techniques

  • Promoting correct and effective use of Alcon products, including:

    • Infiniti with Ozil

    • Laureate

    • Single-Piece AcrySof IOL (Intra Ocular Lens)

    • Natural, IQ (Image Quality IOL)

    • Viscoelastic, Knifes


Key Responsibilities

  • Trainee & Hospital Assessment:

    • Identify and select target trainees and hospitals to optimize quantity and quality of Phaco adoption

  • On-site Instruction & Consultation:

    • Conduct OR and wet lab training for conversion from ECCE/SICS to Phaco

    • Collaborate with outside-Alcon consultants (course instructors and on-site proctors) to ensure effective trainee conversion and high-quality surgical outcomes

  • Product & Technique Demonstration:

    • Model and coach trainees and affiliated personnel in product usage and surgical technique

    • Ensure optimal patient outcomes and high-quality surgical results

  • Event Support:

    • Assist in Alcon Phaco Development training events, patient education programs, professional congresses, symposiums, and special events

  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain records for target assessment, pre-course preparation, surgical observations, and post-course Phaco cases

    • Adhere to all Alcon administrative, weekly/monthly reporting, and expense reporting procedures

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Handle adverse events and product complaints at a local level and forward to the Local Vigilance Representative

    • Comply with corporate compliance guidelines and programs


Key Requirements / Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma / Technical Course in Science

    • Medically related specialty training (Surgical/Medical Technologist) from a recognized institution

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year of sales/marketing experience in a recognized organization or experience in the OR assisting surgeons or field applications

  • Skills:

    • Proficient in English

    • Strong interpersonal and teaching skills

    • Knowledge of cataract surgery techniques and Phaco procedures
