Position Overview

Novartis is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director – Technology & Scientific Computing to lead scientific data analysis, application development, system architecture, and informatics solutions for Research. The role requires expertise in scientific computing, informatics systems, and a deep understanding of Research operations, ensuring robust data-driven decision-making across global projects.

This leadership position is ideal for candidates with strong technical acumen, experience in scientific computing, and proven ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders while delivering high-quality, scalable solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of informatics solutions supporting Research initiatives.

  • Drive scientific data analysis and provide architecture guidance for computing systems used in Research programs.

  • Author and maintain high-quality, compliant technical documentation for research informatics systems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, Quality, and Research to align business needs with technical solutions.

  • Ensure adherence to GxP and computer systems validation principles across all systems.

  • Develop, deploy, and support solutions using R, Python, RShiny, and open-source scientific software.

  • Mentor and lead team members, guiding project execution and fostering innovation.

  • Maintain systematic and detailed approaches to problem-solving, ensuring high accuracy and reproducibility of results.

  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear updates on project status, challenges, and solutions.


Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (required).

  • Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.

  • Strong understanding of GxP requirements, computer systems validation, and scientific computing principles.

  • Proven expertise with R, Python, RStudio/Posit Workbench, and RStudio/Posit Connect.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in scientific computing, data analysis, or informatics within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or research-driven organizations.

  • Experience leading Data Science or informatics projects with cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and manage scalable informatics solutions supporting research programs.

  • Strong experience in stakeholder management, bridging technical and business perspectives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Solution-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and systematic problem-solving skills.
