Job Overview
The Associate Director, Global Medical Affairs is a strategic leadership role responsible for managing complex global Medical Affairs initiatives, including medical content development, Medical/Legal/Regulatory (MLR) review processes, and Medical Affairs operational excellence programs. The position functions as both Client Manager and Project Manager, ensuring successful delivery of cross-functional projects aligned with client and organizational objectives.

This role contributes to Global Medical Affairs strategy development, supports innovation initiatives, and collaborates with global leadership teams to strengthen integrated Medical Affairs service offerings. The Associate Director will oversee project execution, client engagement, operational performance, and team development while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Project and Client Management

  • Lead and manage complex, cross-functional Medical Affairs projects, including medical content development, MLR review, operations, and consulting initiatives.

  • Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring project delivery meets quality standards, timelines, and strategic objectives.

  • Manage cross-functional teams comprising internal staff and external consultants.

  • Oversee multiple client deliverables while maintaining operational efficiency and service excellence.

Medical Affairs Strategy and Leadership

  • Contribute to the development and execution of Global Medical Affairs strategies aligned with business goals and client requirements.

  • Participate in leadership initiatives to drive innovation, solution development, and business growth.

  • Support the design and implementation of scalable Medical Affairs frameworks across therapeutic areas and geographies.

  • Lead development of strategic content such as capability presentations, case studies, white papers, publications, and thought leadership materials.

  • Collaborate with marketing and commercialization teams to support strategic campaigns and industry engagement initiatives.

Operational Excellence and Innovation

  • Drive continuous improvement across Medical Affairs operations through process optimization and performance monitoring.

  • Promote adoption of digital tools and technologies to enhance medical content delivery and stakeholder engagement.

  • Identify and implement innovative approaches to improve Medical Affairs service delivery.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Global Medical Information and Medical Affairs teams to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Facilitate collaboration across internal stakeholders and external partners.

  • Represent Medical Affairs in strategic discussions with clients and industry stakeholders.

Team Development and Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and manage high-performing Medical Affairs teams.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.

  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across projects and teams.

Client Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain long-term client partnerships and act as a strategic advisor.

  • Monitor client satisfaction and implement improvements to enhance service quality.

  • Identify opportunities for service expansion and strategic account growth.

Role Expectations

  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 40+ hours per week.

  • Travel requirement: Up to 25% based on business needs.

  • Maintain high standards of performance, service quality, and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical or scientific degree such as PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industries.

  • Proven experience in project management, including vendor and technology management.

  • Experience in Medical Affairs operations including Medical Information, Medical Communications, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), evidence generation, or related functions.

  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interest in innovation, digital technologies, and process improvement initiatives.
