Job Overview
The Associate Director, Global Medical Affairs is a strategic leadership position responsible for managing complex global Medical Affairs initiatives, including medical content development, Medical/Legal/Regulatory (MLR) review processes, and Medical Affairs operational excellence programs. The role functions as both Client Manager and Project Manager, leading cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that align with client objectives and organizational strategy.

This position contributes to Medical Affairs strategy development, supports innovation initiatives, and collaborates with global leadership teams to enhance integrated Medical Affairs service offerings. The Associate Director will oversee project execution, client engagement, operational performance, and team development while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Project and Client Management

  • Lead and manage complex Medical Affairs projects across content development, MLR review, operations, and consulting initiatives.

  • Serve as primary client contact, ensuring project delivery meets quality standards, timelines, and strategic objectives.

  • Oversee cross-functional teams including internal staff and external consultants.

  • Manage multiple client deliverables simultaneously while maintaining operational excellence.

Medical Affairs Strategy and Leadership

  • Support development and execution of Global Medical Affairs strategies aligned with client and organizational goals.

  • Contribute to solution development, innovation initiatives, and business growth strategies.

  • Design scalable Medical Affairs frameworks across therapeutic areas and global markets.

  • Lead development of thought leadership materials including case studies, white papers, publications, and capability presentations.

  • Collaborate with commercialization and marketing teams to drive strategic communication initiatives and industry engagement.

Operational Excellence and Innovation

  • Drive process optimization and performance improvement across Medical Affairs operations.

  • Promote adoption of digital technologies and innovative solutions to enhance medical content delivery and stakeholder engagement.

  • Monitor performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Global Medical Information and Medical Affairs teams to deliver integrated service solutions.

  • Ensure alignment across internal stakeholders and external partners.

  • Represent Medical Affairs in strategic discussions with clients and industry stakeholders.

Team Development and Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and manage high-performing Medical Affairs teams.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability development of team members.

  • Promote knowledge sharing and implementation of best practices across projects.

Client Relationship Management

  • Establish long-term partnerships with client stakeholders and act as a strategic advisor.

  • Monitor client satisfaction and implement improvements to enhance service delivery.

  • Identify opportunities to expand service offerings and strengthen client relationships.

Role Expectations

  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 40+ hours per week.

  • Travel requirement: Up to 25% based on business needs.

  • Maintain high standards of performance, service quality, and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical or scientific degree such as PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Medical Affairs within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industries.

  • Demonstrated expertise in project management, vendor management, or technology implementation.

  • Experience in Medical Affairs operations including Medical Information, Medical Communications, HEOR, evidence generation, or related functions.

  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interest in innovation, digital technologies, and process improvement initiatives.

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience working in agile environments and managing shifting priorities.

  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive cross-functional collaboration.
