🎯 Role Purpose

The Associate Director – Biostatistics is responsible for leading and building statistical science capabilities within the Statistics, Data & Analytics organization at Lilly Bengaluru. This includes:

  • Delivering high-quality portfolio outputs

  • Developing technical and leadership talent

  • Implementing innovative approaches to data analytics and advanced statistical methodologies

  • Managing resources, budget, staffing, and performance


🔑 Primary Responsibilities

📌 Portfolio Delivery & Strategy

  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams to deliver clinical portfolio outcomes on-time and with high quality.

  • Develop therapeutic area expertise to inform scientific decisions.

  • Ensure resource planning, forecasting, and budget management.

  • Oversee project prioritization and resolution of scope/resource issues.

  • Collaborate globally to drive data execution strategies.

  • Monitor and report portfolio metrics and support strategic decision-making.

📈 Statistical and Analytical Capabilities Development

  • Build and maintain advanced statistical capabilities and expertise.

  • Oversee hands-on statistical support from direct reports.

  • Promote scientific excellence in therapeutic and environmental knowledge.

  • Innovate in the use of data science and advanced analytics for drug development.

🌍 Enterprise Leadership

  • Represent the Biostatistics function at internal and external forums.

  • Stay informed about global regulatory requirements (US, EU, Japan, China).

  • Be an external thought leader in statistics, influencing industry practices.

  • Drive compliance, process improvement, and shared learning.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.

👥 People Management & Development

  • Recruit, coach, and mentor top statistical talent.

  • Build and lead high-performing teams that deliver excellence in clinical data support.

  • Support leadership development and provide technical guidance.

  • Create an inclusive culture that values diversity and innovation.

  • Develop staff in areas including drug development, project management, and cross-functional leadership.


🎓 Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s (M.S.) or Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Statistics / Biostatistics

  • 10+ years of industry experience in biostatistics

  • Broad knowledge of the drug development lifecycle, regulatory expectations, and statistical methodologies


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven people management and leadership experience

  • Strong project management and resource planning capabilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to influence across teams and drive innovation

  • High level of computational and statistical proficiency
