Job Title: Assistant Manager – Medical Coding
Location: Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Job Summary:
Optum, a global leader in healthcare services, is seeking an Assistant Manager – Medical Coding to lead a team of certified coders and ensure consistent performance in medical coding operations. This role demands proven leadership, a strong background in coding standards, and the ability to maintain high levels of quality and productivity. You will play a critical part in optimizing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes by upholding medical coding best practices and driving operational efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of 25–30 certified coders, ensuring orientation, training, and compliance with workplace policies.

  • Oversee key performance metrics including timeliness, quality, and productivity.

  • Plan, monitor, and appraise job outcomes; provide coaching, counseling, and implement discipline procedures as needed.

  • Enforce high standards for quality and customer service; identify and resolve issues; recommend system improvements based on trend analysis.

  • Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional networks.

  • Drive team engagement and retention by aligning with company vision, empowering team members, and offering regular feedback.

  • Comply with employment contracts, company policies, and directives related to shifts, team changes, or work environment adjustments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in any discipline.

  • Certified coder from AAPC or AHIMA.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Team Leader or Assistant Manager in medical coding.

  • Experience managing a team of at least 15 coders.

  • Strong expertise in performance management, supervision, coaching, and quality assurance in a medical coding environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as copiers and fax machines.
