Role Overview

The Assistant Technician – I (Dialysis Technician) will be responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis machines to provide safe and effective dialysis treatment to patients with kidney failure. The role requires technical proficiency, strict adherence to infection control protocols, accurate documentation, and compassionate patient interaction.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring high standards of dialysis care within a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines according to established clinical protocols.

  • Attach dialyzers and blood tubing to the machine and prime extracorporeal circuits with 0.9% normal saline prior to treatment.

  • Label dialyzers and bloodlines with patient name and ID before first use (excluding single-use disposables).

  • Prepare dialysis solutions and mix bicarbonate concentrates as per prescribed formulas.

  • Explain dialysis procedures and machine operation to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure informed cooperation.

  • Connect patients to vascular access sites (AV fistula, graft, or catheter) to initiate dialysis treatment.

  • Monitor dialysis machines for alarms, malfunctions, and treatment parameters during therapy sessions.

  • Record and maintain all required logbooks, treatment forms, and clinical registers accurately.

  • Follow infection control guidelines and biomedical waste disposal protocols.

  • Ensure compliance with clinical SOPs and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certification in Dialysis Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), or related paramedical field.

  • 0–3 years of experience in dialysis center, hospital nephrology unit, or renal care facility.

  • Basic knowledge of hemodialysis procedures and patient monitoring.

  • Understanding of infection control and biomedical safety protocols.

  • Good communication and patient-handling skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in operating Fresenius or equivalent hemodialysis systems.

  • Strong observational skills and ability to respond to clinical emergencies.

  • Team-oriented approach with attention to detail.
