Department Overview: Clinical Site Startup & Engagement (CSSE)

The CSSE Team enhances Takeda’s operational capabilities in global clinical-trial planning and management.
Its mission is to collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver best-in-class trial execution, drive innovation, and optimize quality, compliance, and resource utilization across Takeda’s R&D pipeline.


Role Overview

Interns will support CSSE’s strategic initiatives across the following departments:

  • Feasibility & Trial Equity

  • Study Start-Up

  • Patient Recruitment & Retention

They will collaborate with multiple teams (Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Legal, Field Medical, R&D Health Equity, etc.), participate in trial team meetings, and gain hands-on exposure to Takeda’s R&D processes.
At the end of the internship, interns will present a capstone presentation summarizing their experience and insights.


Key Responsibilities

Feasibility

  • Support identification of competitive landscape for specific trials/indications.

Study Start-Up

  • Review and track documents managed by the Study Start-Up team.

  • Support monitoring and reporting of key operational metrics.

Patient Recruitment & Retention

  • Contribute to developing effective clinical trial messaging strategies.

  • Identify successful communication methods to engage diverse populations.

Trial Equity

  • Support development of a global diversity strategy.

  • Aggregate data on disease demographics.

  • Research and document community-based partnerships.

  • Assist in maintaining the D&I in Clinical Trials resource database (SharePoint).

  • Collect and summarize external communications related to D&I initiatives.


Learning & Development Opportunities

Eligibility Criteria

Education

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:

    • Marketing

    • Natural & Physical Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.)

    • Biostatistics / Mathematics

    • Biomedical / Bioengineering

    • Health Education / Nursing

    • Pharmaceutical or Pre-Pharmaceutical Studies

    • Gender, Ethnic, or Cultural Studies

Technical Skills

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with database management, statistics, research methods, and technical writing.

Work Authorization

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

  • Must be currently enrolled and graduating December 2026 or later.


Internship Details

  • Duration: 10–12 weeks

    • Option 1: May 26 – August 14, 2026

    • Option 2: June 15 – August 21, 2026

  • Commitment: Full-time (40 hours/week)

  • Format: Fully Remote

  • Note: No housing stipend or relocation support provided.

Compensation & Benefits

💵 Hourly Wage Range: $21.00 – $46.00/hour
(Based on education level and experience; in compliance with local wage laws)
