Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Lead – Cell Line Development to lead mammalian cell line engineering programs for biologics development. The role requires deep expertise in vector construction, CHO cell line development, clone screening, GMP cell banking, and cross-functional collaboration with upstream process development teams.

This position is ideal for professionals with strong scientific leadership, project execution capabilities, and hands-on experience in generating high-producing, stable clones for biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and construct single and dual gene expression vectors for mammalian systems.

  • Perform transfection of CHO-GS (-) cell lines for minipool generation and clone finalization.

  • Execute single-cell cloning from minipools to generate stable monoclonal cell lines.

  • Plan and conduct fed-batch studies of minipools and monoclones for titre evaluation and product quality analysis.

  • Develop and support GMP-compliant cell banking activities for process development programs.

  • Deliver robust, high-yielding clones suitable for upstream process scale-up.

  • Collaborate closely with upstream and process development teams for seamless clone transfer.

  • Prepare, review, and maintain departmental SOPs, SLPs, and cell line development reports for mammalian and microbial projects.

  • Manage laboratory vendors, procurement, and in-house inventory control.

  • Design experimental strategies and ensure structured execution aligned with project timelines.

  • Mentor and train junior scientists and research associates within the department.

Required Experience

  • 8 to 12 years of hands-on experience in mammalian cell line development within biopharma, biotechnology, or contract research organizations.

  • Proven expertise in CHO-based expression systems, clone selection, and stability studies.

  • Experience in GMP cell banking and regulatory-compliant documentation practices.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing scientific teams and project workflows.

  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills in biologics development programs.

Educational Qualification

  • MSc / MTech in Biochemistry, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences discipline.
