Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist – Night Shift plays a critical role in operating room procedures, supporting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the clinical team. This overnight position ensures sterile setups, assists during surgeries, and maintains a safe and efficient operating room environment. Eligible candidates may receive a sign-on bonus of up to $25,000, based on experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Surgical Support: Prepare the operating room by arranging instruments, sterile drapes, solutions, and equipment; pass instruments, sponges, sutures, and assist surgeons during procedures.

  • Patient Care: Prepare patients for surgery, maintain aseptic technique, assist with patient transfers, positioning, and post-operative care.

  • Medication & Equipment Handling: Ensure all medications are labeled and passed to the surgical team according to policy; assemble, check, and maintain surgical equipment.

  • Specimen Management: Assist in collection, care, labeling, and disposal of specimens for laboratory analysis.

  • Documentation & Clerical Duties: Maintain accurate patient and surgical records, communicate with healthcare team, and manage work area efficiently.

  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to aseptic technique and surgical protocols; monitor for safety hazards.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure smooth and efficient surgical workflow.

  • Secondary Duties: Assist with patient transportation, restocking OR supplies, and managing surgical trays and graft materials.


Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program OR relevant military training.

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist Surgery-Certified (TSC) preferred; new graduates may work for up to six months prior to certification.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

  • Compliance with PA House Bill 81 and other state regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge or experience in multiple surgical specialties such as obstetrics, general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic/reconstructive, thoracic, ophthalmic, and neurosurgery.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow sterile techniques.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced operating room environment.
