Job Overview

The Subject Matter Expert – Surgery Coding plays a key role in supporting coding professionals with accurate, compliant and up-to-date surgery coding practices. This position is designed for candidates looking to build a long-term career in medical coding, and freshers with required certifications are encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training and knowledge updates for surgery coding teams, including CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and NCCI edits

  • Stay current with CMS, AMA and AHA coding guideline updates and communicate changes effectively

  • Prepare clear, accurate reports and maintain detailed documentation records

  • Track assessment scores, audit outcomes, code quality and provide constructive feedback

  • Participate in coding calibration meetings and contribute to coding review discussions

  • Assist coders with complex case resolution, documentation improvement and coding clarification

  • Collaborate with compliance, quality assurance and operations teams to identify coding gaps and drive process improvement

  • Adhere to organizational policies, workflow requirements, shift adjustments and operational guidelines as per evolving business needs


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Life Sciences or a related field (preferred)

  • AAPC/AHIMA certification (mandatory): CPC, CIC, CCS or COC

  • Freshers with valid certification can apply

  • Strong understanding of surgery coding guidelines, E/M changes and CMS documentation standards

  • Working knowledge of the US healthcare revenue cycle management system

  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR platforms and auditing tools

  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and documentation consistency

  • Proficiency with common coding software and EHR systems such as EPIC, eCAC, 3M and Cerner
