Job Overview
Omega Healthcare is seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Medical Coding to provide expert-level guidance, process optimization, and training support within the coding function. The role requires strong hands-on experience in IPDRG medical coding, compliance oversight, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position is ideal for senior coding professionals who excel in mentoring teams, resolving complex coding issues, and ensuring regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Coding Expertise
Act as the primary subject matter expert for medical coding queries and escalations.
Provide advanced guidance on complex coding scenarios, with a focus on IPDRG.
Process Improvement
Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and quality risks within coding operations.
Design and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and accuracy.
Training & Knowledge Management
Develop and deliver training materials, coding guidelines, and refresher programs.
Support onboarding and upskilling of coding professionals.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, client-specific guidelines, and internal SOPs.
Conduct regular coding audits and support corrective and preventive actions.
Issue Resolution & Stakeholder Collaboration
Resolve complex coding disputes and client escalations.
Collaborate with internal teams, quality, and operations stakeholders to ensure smooth service delivery.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong expertise in Medical Coding standards and workflows.
In-depth knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, IPDRG, EMR systems, and HIPAA compliance.
Experience in employee training, mentoring, and performance improvement.
Familiarity with clinical data management and Six Sigma methodologies.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to handle escalations and provide decision-level guidance.
Experience & Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on medical coding experience, with mandatory exposure to IPDRG.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any relevant discipline.
Certification: Medical coding certification is preferred but not mandatory.
