Role Overview

The Staff Scientist I, LC-MS/MS will be responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing LC-MS/MS methods for small and large molecules in biological matrices. The role requires advanced scientific expertise, troubleshooting capabilities, technical leadership, client interaction, and support for laboratory operations in a regulated clinical environment.


Key Responsibilities

LC-MS/MS Method Development & Validation

  • Develop and validate LC-MS/MS methods for:

    • Small molecules (e.g., steroids, vitamins)

    • Large molecules (e.g., proteins, antibody-drug conjugates)

  • Design and optimize sample preparation techniques:

    • Protein precipitation

    • Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)

    • Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE)

    • Supported Liquid Extraction (SLE)

    • Derivatization

    • Digestion workflows

  • Develop semi-quantitative and quantitative analytical methods.

Scientific Leadership & Troubleshooting

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of assays and instrumentation.

  • Lead scientific initiatives to resolve complex analytical challenges.

  • Apply and interpret scientific theories, analytical techniques, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide scientific consultation to laboratory and operational teams.

  • Contribute to departmental technical policies and long-term planning.

Technical Support & Collaboration

  • Support monitoring and evaluation of clinical assays.

  • Provide technical training to laboratory personnel.

  • Consult with cross-functional teams such as Project Management.

  • Assist in managing scientific vendor relationships.

  • Participate in client visits and scientific discussions.

Research & Scientific Communication

  • Stay current with scientific literature and emerging technologies.

  • Prepare scientific reports, publications, and presentations.

  • Present scientific findings to clients and professional groups.

  • Attend conferences, seminars, and industry meetings.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • CAP

    • CLIA

    • Applicable regulatory requirements

  • Maintain scientific and operational quality standards.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant scientific field.

  • 5+ years of relevant laboratory experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS platforms, including:

    • Sciex 6500+

    • Waters Acquity UPLC

  • Proven experience in LC-MS/MS method development and validation.

  • Experience with analytical software:

    • Sciex Analyst

    • Sciex MultiQuant

    • Indigo Ascent

  • Strong research, data interpretation, and technical report writing skills.

  • Experience preparing scientific publications and presentations.

  • Knowledge of:

    • Clinical laboratory automation

    • Laboratory statistics

    • Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience working with:

    • Small molecules

    • Peptides

    • Biomolecules

  • PhD in:

    • Chemistry

    • Analytical Chemistry

    • Biochemistry

    • Related scientific discipline
