Role Overview:
Gilead is seeking a highly skilled Senior Lab Operations Specialist, Flow Cytometry to join the Flow Cytometry Core team. The role is critical for supporting the operations of core laboratories across Oncology, Inflammation, and Virology therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will maintain instrumentation, optimize assays, provide training and technical guidance, and contribute to high-quality experimental outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, high-impact research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform calibration, maintenance, cleaning, and QC of flow cytometry instrumentation to ensure optimal performance.

  • Troubleshoot complex instrumentation issues and coordinate repairs with field engineers when needed.

  • Conduct multiparameter cell sorting and optimize sorting conditions for specific assays, including BSL2+ sorting.

  • Provide expert guidance on panel design, sample preparation, and assay optimization.

  • Execute experiments to validate and refine SOPs for flow cytometry assays.

  • Train core users in flow cytometry technologies, experimental design, and data analysis.

  • Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teams to support research objectives.

  • Assist with lab inventory management and workflow automation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • Strong knowledge of conventional and spectral flow cytometry; imaging cytometry experience is a plus.

  • Extensive experience with cell sorting and cell-based assays.

  • Background in cell biology and immunology, including technical expertise in BSL2 and aseptic techniques.

  • Prior experience in industry or flow cytometry core facility operations.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and critical thinking to resolve assay and instrumentation challenges.

  • Excellent verbal, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Windows-based systems and the ability to learn new software and hardware quickly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with BD, Beckman Coulter, ThermoFisher, and Sony instruments.

  • Highly collaborative, adaptable, and resourceful problem solver in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to contribute to scientific research impacting multiple Gilead therapeutic areas.
