Company Overview:
Lilly is a global healthcare leader committed to discovering and delivering innovative medicines that improve patient lives worldwide. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Lilly operates with a mission to advance science, drive innovation, and positively impact global health through research, development, and philanthropy.

Role Overview:
The Sr. Director / Executive Director of Cheminformatics will join Lilly’s Early Molecule Discovery (EMD) team, focused on small molecule hit-to-lead development. This role combines scientific leadership with hands-on application of cheminformatics, AI/ML, and computational chemistry technologies to accelerate early-stage drug discovery. The ideal candidate will contribute to data-driven decision-making, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and support the identification and optimization of quality lead molecules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced cheminformatics, AI/ML, and computational analyses to enable library design, hit identification, prioritization, and hit-to-lead progression across multiple targets.

  • Provide strategic guidance on cheminformatics approaches to enhance early molecule discovery.

  • Collaborate with medicinal chemists, computational scientists, and cross-functional partners to develop predictive models, generate well-designed screening collections, and support lead optimization.

  • Drive the application of modern cheminformatics for analyzing large datasets, designing virtual libraries, and supporting ligand- and fragment-based design.

  • Investigate emerging technologies to improve the efficiency and quality of lead discovery processes.

  • Communicate results effectively to project teams and leadership, ensuring timely delivery of actionable insights.

  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team environment while mentoring early-career scientists.

Basic Requirements:

  • Fresher candidates are welcome; a strong academic background in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, or related fields is preferred.

  • Familiarity with computational methods, AI/ML, and cheminformatics workflows.

  • Knowledge of data analytics, statistical modeling, and scientific programming (Python preferred).

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, research-intensive environment.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of drug discovery processes, medicinal chemistry, and ADME principles.

  • Familiarity with virtual library design, synthon-based searches, and chemical space exploration.

  • Experience with large datasets and predictive modeling techniques.

  • Agile mindset with the ability to adapt research priorities to achieve project goals.

Additional Information:

  • Work Environment: Laboratory-based, collaborative team environment.

  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required.

  • Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits based on education, skills, and location.
