Role Overview:
The Sr. Director – Immunology Translational Medicine will provide strategic leadership and scientific expertise across Lilly’s immunology portfolio. This role is pivotal in defining translational strategies, biomarker development, and precision medicine approaches to optimize patient outcomes and advance clinical programs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Translational Strategy & Scientific Leadership:

  • Define and execute translational medicine strategies for multiple immunology programs in discovery and clinical development.

  • Establish, maintain, and prioritize a laboratory to support translational immunology research.

  • Drive biomarker research, publications, and presentations to enhance scientific impact and visibility.

  • Identify and implement novel translational tools, including companion diagnostics, imaging techniques, and emerging precision medicine methodologies.

2. Collaboration & Partnership Management:

  • Actively collaborate with internal program teams, cross-functional leaders, and external partners, including academic institutions, CROs, and biotech/pharma collaborators.

  • Support discovery efforts through analysis of human bio-samples, enabling bedside-to-bench insights.

  • Provide regulatory and protocol support for biomarker components of clinical programs.

3. Team Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams of translational scientists.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance environment in alignment with Lilly’s values and innovation goals.

4. Research & Innovation:

  • Support target identification and novel pathway exploration within immunology.

  • Incorporate high-content data, computational methodologies, and AI applications to inform translational strategies.

  • Provide strategic input on future immunology investment opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.D. in Immunology or a related life sciences field.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech translational medicine supporting clinical programs in autoimmunity (rheumatology, respiratory, gastroenterology).

  • Strong understanding of the drug discovery and development lifecycle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proven track record collaborating with external partners and academic institutions.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and team-building skills.

  • Experience with high-content data analysis, computational biology, and AI in translational medicine.

  • Ability to operate independently in a matrixed, fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $168,000 – $294,800, based on experience, skills, and location.
