Job Overview

Syneos Health is hiring a Senior Biostatistician / Senior Data Scientist / Analyst to lead Real-World Data (RWD) research initiatives. This role requires advanced expertise in statistical programming, observational research methods, and healthcare data analytics. The selected candidate will drive analysis strategy, develop technical specifications, conduct complex statistical analyses, and ensure methodological rigor across projects.

Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field with 5–8 years of relevant post-graduate experience
    OR

  • PhD in a relevant discipline with 3+ years of post-graduate experience

Additional requirements include:

  • Advanced expertise in statistical programming and observational research methods

  • Proven leadership in Real-World Data (RWD) analysis strategy and execution

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects in matrix environments

  • Strong track record of meeting timelines and performance targets

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of statistical analysis strategies for Real-World Data research

  • Design and author technical specifications and study methodologies

  • Develop and validate patient cohorts and key study variables

  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses ensuring methodological rigor

  • Oversee quality control and data validation processes

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including epidemiology, HEOR, and clinical stakeholders

  • Develop best practices, standards, and reusable programming packages

  • Communicate complex statistical findings to non-technical stakeholders

  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and workflow tracking tools (Jira or ADO)

  • Contribute to protocol development, statistical analysis plans, and manuscript preparation

Technical Skills and Expertise

Statistical Programming:

  • Advanced proficiency in SAS, R, and SQL (mandatory)

  • Python proficiency preferred

  • Ability to independently develop code, create reusable packages, and handle complex data structures

Advanced Analytical Methods:

  • Propensity score matching and advanced causal inference methods

  • Lines of therapy programming logic

  • Sankey diagram generation

  • Machine learning applications including LASSO, Decision Trees, Random Forest, and XGBoost

  • Experience applying ML techniques to Real-World Data

Data Platforms & Tools:

  • Experience with OHDSI or DARWIN toolsets in R

  • Familiarity with OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) or similar frameworks

  • Cloud-based SQL experience preferred

  • Tableau, Power BI, or other visualization tools (advantageous)

Healthcare Data Expertise

Experience working with large healthcare databases including:

Claims Data Sources:

  • Optum

  • MarketScan

  • Pharmetrics+

  • HealthVerity

  • CPRD

  • Electronic Health Records (EHR):

  • IQVIA

  • Flatiron Health

  • ConcertAI

  • TriNetX

Candidates should demonstrate strong understanding of:

  • Epidemiology and outcomes research

  • Study design and execution

  • Biomarker and genomic data sources

  • US and international healthcare datasets

Specialized Domain Experience (Preferred)

Oncology:

  • Oncology observational studies

  • Flatiron and ConcertAI platforms

  • Programming logic for lines of therapy

Molecular Epidemiology:

  • Clinico-genomic multi-modal datasets (e.g., Tempus AI)

  • Population biobank datasets (e.g., UK Biobank)

  • Ability to multitask in matrix environments

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR):

  • Cost analysis

  • Burden of illness studies

  • Comparative effectiveness research

  • SAS/SQL required; R preferred
