Role Overview

Syneos Health is seeking an experienced Senior Biostatistician / Senior Data Scientist / Analyst to lead advanced Real-World Data (RWD) and Real-World Evidence (RWE) initiatives. This position requires deep expertise in biostatistics, observational research methodologies, advanced statistical programming, and large healthcare database analytics.

The selected candidate will be responsible for leading RWD analysis strategy, developing statistical specifications, executing complex programming tasks, and ensuring methodological rigor across cross-functional projects.

This opportunity is strictly open to candidates located in the United States or the United Kingdom. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative discipline with 5–8 years of relevant post-graduate experience
    OR

  • PhD in a relevant field with a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral industry experience

Additionally required:

  • Demonstrated leadership in Real-World Data analysis strategy and execution

  • Advanced expertise in statistical programming and observational research design

  • Proven experience managing projects independently in matrix environments

  • Strong record of delivering projects within defined timelines and quality standards

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead statistical analysis strategy for Real-World Evidence and healthcare analytics studies

  • Develop and review statistical analysis plans (SAPs) and technical specifications

  • Create, validate, and manage patient cohorts and derived study variables

  • Perform advanced statistical programming using large-scale healthcare datasets

  • Ensure quality control, reproducibility, and methodological rigor

  • Contribute to protocol development, manuscript drafting, and study execution

  • Collaborate across epidemiology, HEOR, clinical, and data science teams

  • Track deliverables using project management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps

  • Present complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Technical and Programming Expertise

Core Programming Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in SAS, R, and SQL (mandatory)

  • Python experience preferred

  • Ability to independently develop reusable code, create packages, and manage complex study designs

Advanced Analytical Methods:

  • Propensity score analysis and matching

  • Causal inference methodologies

  • Lines of therapy programming logic

  • Sankey diagram generation

  • Machine learning techniques including LASSO, Decision Trees, Random Forest, and XGBoost

  • Application of machine learning models to Real-World Data

Data Standards and Platforms:

  • Experience with OHDSI or DARWIN toolsets in R

  • Familiarity with OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) or similar frameworks

  • Experience in cloud-based SQL environments (preferred)

  • Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI (advantageous)

Healthcare Data and Domain Expertise

Hands-on experience with major healthcare data sources is required, including:

Claims Databases:

  • Optum

  • MarketScan

  • Pharmetrics+

  • HealthVerity

  • CPRD

Electronic Health Records (EHR):

  • IQVIA

  • Flatiron Health

  • ConcertAI

  • TriNetX

Additional subject matter expertise:

  • Epidemiology and outcomes research

  • Study design and real-world evidence execution

  • Biomarker and genomic data analysis

  • Knowledge of US and international healthcare datasets

  • Psychometric validation experience for clinical trial analyses (where applicable)

Preferred Specialized Experience

Oncology:

  • Oncology observational research

  • Experience with Flatiron Health and ConcertAI datasets

  • Programming logic for lines of therapy

Molecular Epidemiology:

  • Clinico-genomic multimodal datasets (e.g., Tempus AI)

  • Population biobank data (e.g., UK Biobank)

  • Ability to work in high-complexity, matrixed environments

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR):

  • Cost analysis and burden of illness studies

  • Comparative effectiveness research

  • SAS/SQL required; R experience beneficial
