Job Overview

Syneos Health is seeking an experienced Senior Biostatistician / Senior Data Scientist / Analyst to lead advanced Real-World Data (RWD) analytics initiatives. This role is ideal for professionals with deep expertise in biostatistics, observational research, healthcare databases, and advanced statistical programming.

The selected candidate will lead analysis strategy, develop technical specifications, execute complex statistical programming, and ensure methodological rigor across real-world evidence and outcomes research projects.

Applicants must be currently located in the United States or the United Kingdom. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field with 5–8 years of relevant post-graduate experience
    OR

  • PhD in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral professional experience

Additionally required:

  • Proven leadership in Real-World Data (RWD) analysis strategy and execution

  • Advanced expertise in statistical programming and observational research methodologies

  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects in matrix environments

  • Strong track record of delivering projects on time and meeting performance targets

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of statistical analysis strategies for Real-World Evidence (RWE) studies

  • Author and review technical specifications and statistical analysis plans

  • Develop, validate, and manage patient cohorts and key study variables

  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses using large healthcare datasets

  • Oversee quality control and ensure methodological rigor

  • Contribute to protocol development, manuscript preparation, and study design execution

  • Collaborate with epidemiology, HEOR, clinical, and commercial stakeholders

  • Track deliverables and project milestones using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps (ADO)

  • Communicate complex statistical findings to non-technical stakeholders

Technical Skills and Analytical Expertise

Statistical Programming:

  • Advanced proficiency in SAS, R, and SQL (mandatory)

  • Python experience preferred

  • Ability to independently program, create reusable packages, and manage complex data structures

Advanced Analytical Methods:

  • Propensity score matching and causal inference techniques

  • Lines of therapy programming logic

  • Sankey diagram generation

  • Machine learning methodologies including LASSO, Decision Trees, Random Forest, and XGBoost

  • Application of machine learning models to Real-World Data

Data Platforms and Tools:

  • Experience with OHDSI or DARWIN toolsets in R

  • Familiarity with OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) or similar frameworks

  • Experience with cloud-based SQL environments (preferred)

  • Visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI (advantageous)

Healthcare Data & Domain Expertise

Candidates should have hands-on experience with large-scale healthcare databases, including:

Claims Data Sources:

  • Optum

  • MarketScan

  • Pharmetrics+

  • HealthVerity

  • CPRD

Electronic Health Records (EHR):

  • IQVIA

  • Flatiron Health

  • ConcertAI

  • TriNetX

Additional expertise required:

  • Strong understanding of epidemiology and outcomes research

  • Experience with study design and real-world evidence execution

  • Exposure to biomarker and genomic datasets

  • Knowledge of US and international healthcare data sources

  • Experience with psychometric validation in clinical trial analyses (where applicable)

Specialized Experience (Preferred)

Oncology:

  • Oncology-focused observational research

  • Experience with Flatiron Health and ConcertAI datasets

  • Advanced programming logic for lines of therapy

Molecular Epidemiology:

  • Clinico-genomic multimodal data (e.g., Tempus AI)

  • Population biobank datasets (e.g., UK Biobank)

  • Experience in high-complexity matrix environments

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR):

  • Cost-effectiveness analysis

  • Burden of illness studies

  • Comparative effectiveness research

  • SAS/SQL required; R experience preferred
