Role Summary

The Specialist – Dangerous Goods is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation of hazardous materials across global supply chains. This role serves as a subject matter expert on Dangerous Goods regulations, supports regulatory compliance initiatives, drives process improvements, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to maintain operational excellence.

The position requires deep knowledge of international Dangerous Goods regulations, strong analytical and project management skills, and the ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring uninterrupted global goods movement.

Key Responsibilities

Dangerous Goods Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of global Dangerous Goods regulations and compliance frameworks, including:

    • International Air Transport Association (IATA)

    • European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR)

    • International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code

    • U.S. Department of Transportation 49 CFR Regulations

  • Ensure all transportation and shipping activities comply with applicable global and regional regulations.

  • Monitor regulatory updates and assess business impact to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Provide expert guidance on Dangerous Goods classification, handling, packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements.

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure safe and uninterrupted movement of goods across global supply chains.

  • Identify process gaps, operational risks, and compliance challenges.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing:

    • Kaizen Methodologies

    • Lean Principles

    • Six Sigma Tools

  • Drive process standardization and optimization to improve quality, efficiency, and compliance.

  • Develop solutions that enhance operational performance and reduce risks.

Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with:

    • Supply Chain Teams

    • Logistics Functions

    • Quality Teams

    • Regulatory Affairs

    • Global Operations Teams

  • Support the implementation and adoption of new processes, procedures, and systems.

  • Influence stakeholders to ensure compliance and operational alignment across functions.

Training & Knowledge Management

  • Develop and deliver Dangerous Goods training programs for employees and stakeholders.

  • Ensure continuous knowledge development and regulatory awareness across teams.

  • Support capability building initiatives to strengthen organizational expertise.

  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with certification requirements.

Project & Change Management

  • Support global projects from planning through execution and completion.

  • Coordinate change management activities and communication plans.

  • Ensure smooth implementation of process, system, and regulatory changes.

  • Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving supply chain compliance and efficiency.

Documentation & Quality Management

  • Maintain and manage:

    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    • Work Instructions

    • Compliance Documentation

    • Quality Records

  • Support ISO audit readiness and compliance activities.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and performance metrics related to team operations.

  • Ensure documentation remains accurate, current, and audit-ready.

Team Support & Business Growth

  • Act as a subject matter expert for process-related inquiries.

  • Provide guidance and support to team members on Dangerous Goods regulations and procedures.

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and business growth.

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that improve customer experience and operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

Education

One of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management

  • Logistics

  • Life Sciences

  • Chemistry

  • Engineering

  • Business Administration

  • Related Discipline

Experience

  • 3–5 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Hands-on experience within a Dangerous Goods function.

  • Experience working in:

    • Logistics Operations

    • Supply Chain Management

    • Transportation Compliance

    • Hazardous Materials Management

  • Experience supporting global operations and regulatory compliance initiatives.
