Role Summary

The Site Selection Lead will provide functional leadership for the Site Selection process based on the approved country and site strategy. The role involves liaising with Project Managers (PM), Clinical Trial Managers (CTM), and Sponsors to ensure the successful delivery of the Last Site Selected Milestone.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for all site selection-related activities within the study.

  • Lead the site selection process for awarded studies, collaborating closely with feasibility managers on country feasibility.

  • Attend project kick-off meetings to understand client needs fully.

  • Review site selection budgets and propose adjustments for study delivery in coordination with PM.

  • Coordinate with the Study Start-up manager/lead to integrate start-up plans ensuring timely delivery of site initiation and First Patient In (FPI) milestones.

  • Develop Site Profiles, Protocol Specific Site Requirements, and Site Selection Questionnaires tailored to each protocol.

  • Create and implement site-ranking plans to approve appropriate, high-quality sites.

  • Lead and manage the Site Outreach team.

  • Exclude debarred or previously poor-performing investigators from site identification, ensuring audit or regulatory issues are documented in due diligence reports.

  • Follow up on inconsistencies and missing data from sites to ensure data completeness for analysis.

  • Track progress and provide status reports to sponsors and project teams.

  • Resolve any feasibility-stage issues prior to site selection (e.g., conflict of interest, data protection, due diligence).

  • Implement training and set performance goals for the site selection team; ensure all documentation is maintained and up to date.

  • Develop site and country scenario plans, recruitment rate projections, and recommendations for sponsor approval.

  • Ensure high-quality, accurate, and documented data collection supporting feasibility, site selection, and recruitment planning.

  • Prepare for and participate in client meetings to clearly present site selection services and support strategic planning.

  • Deliver projects on time and within budget while managing hours of staff involved in site selection services.

  • Provide strategic input to Business Development, Operations, and sponsors; serve as an expert resource.

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the Site Selection group to enhance quality and timelines.

  • Maintain high standards of quality and responsiveness in line with ICON’s values.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Travel approximately 15% domestically and/or internationally.

  • Follow and contribute to the culture of process improvement with a focus on accelerating concept-to-cure timelines.

  • Create and manage project-specific Site Selection strategies.


Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience

  • 3-6 years in Clinical Research focusing on Study Start-Up and Site Selection/Identification.

  • Strong understanding of site selection processes across multiple countries.

  • Project Management experience is essential.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.

  • Flexibility to work EMEA hours with options for schedule flexibility.
