Senior Statistical Programmer


Job Summary

Amgen is hiring a Senior Statistical Programmer to contribute to global real-world evidence (RWE) and observational research projects. Based in Hyderabad, this role involves hands-on statistical programming with SAS, R, and SQL, focusing on manipulating large healthcare datasets to generate impactful insights. The position offers an exciting opportunity to shape data-driven strategies in pharmaceutical research and development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and validate statistical programs in Unix and Databricks.

  • Generate analysis datasets, tables, and figures for regulatory submissions and scientific publications.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to clarify study requirements and deliver high-quality statistical outputs.

  • Lead technical programming and process improvement initiatives within the Centre for Observational Research (CfOR).

  • Review programming plans, dataset specifications, SAPs, CRFs, and Data Management Plans.

  • Manage project-specific programming activities, ensuring adherence to timelines and standards.

  • Participate in audits and respond to findings from Clinical Quality Assurance bodies.

  • Support recruitment and mentorship of programming staff.

  • Engage in external professional organizations and conferences to remain updated on best practices.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Master’s with 1–3 years OR Bachelor’s with 3–5 years OR Diploma with 7–9 years in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Life Sciences, or related fields.

  • Must-Have Skills:

    • Proficient in SAS or R for statistical programming.

    • Strong command of SQL for data manipulation.

    • Experience handling real-world healthcare data (claims, EMR, registries).

    • Expertise in statistical programming for clinical trials or observational studies.

    • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Good-to-Have Skills:

    • Familiarity with the OMOP common data model.

    • Knowledge of CDISC (SDTM, ADaM) standards.

    • Experience in real-world data (RWD) platforms such as MarketScan, Optum, Flatiron.

    • Proficiency in Python for data science applications.

    • Understanding of epidemiological concepts (incidence, prevalence).
