Position Purpose

Join the Vision R&D team as a Senior Scientist driving innovation in polymer formulations for Class II and III ophthalmic medical devices. Lead projects from concept to scale-up, focusing on novel polymer chemistries, monomer/polymer synthesis, raw material analysis, device fabrication, and characterization methodologies. Apply expertise in polymerization kinetics, structure-property relationships, organic chemistry, and photochemistry to improve device performance and patient outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Innovate & Develop:

    • Design and optimize novel bulk and surface polymerization chemistries for ophthalmic devices.

    • Contribute to intellectual property development and patient outcome improvements.

  • Lead & Collaborate:

    • Drive independent and team research initiatives tackling complex challenges.

    • Balance multiple project factors simultaneously.

  • Literature & Strategy:

    • Use scientific literature to inform targeted molecular design and performance goals.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

    • Work with organic chemists, analytical chemists, polymer scientists, biochemists, materials scientists, chemical engineers, and medical professionals.

  • Regulatory & IP Support:

    • Engage with legal, clinical, quality, and regulatory teams to align projects with compliance and innovation objectives.


Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Master’s degree with 8+ years experience in formulations, or

    • PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, Physical Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with emphasis on synthesis, photochemistry, polymers, or polymer physics.

  • Skills & Experience:

    • Ability to independently conceive and execute proof-of-concept experiments for novel compounds.

    • Strong knowledge of photochemical and photophysical processes preferred.

    • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

    • Effective oral and written communication skills for collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.


Compensation

  • Base pay range: $89,000 - $140,000
