Role Overview

The ARIA Computational Biology Team is seeking a talented Computational Biologist to advance Amgen’s therapeutic pipeline. You will combine expertise in data science and disease biology to accelerate the identification, prioritization, and validation of transformative therapeutic targets in a cross-functional research environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Extract biological insights from multi-modal omics and screening data to characterize disease mechanisms, identify biomarkers, and test hypotheses.

  • Develop and apply computational platforms to discover, prioritize, and validate drug targets across diverse diseases and therapeutic modalities.

  • Collaborate closely with Amgen therapeutic area scientists on internal programs and external partnerships.

  • Partner with data science and IT teams to integrate computational tools into Amgen’s R&D platforms.


Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related discipline (post-doc experience preferred)
    OR

  • Master’s degree + 3 years of relevant research experience
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of relevant research experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, Linux/Unix; experience with cloud computing, HPC, and Git.

  • Proven record of creative computational strategy development for complex research challenges.

  • Expertise in single-cell omics data analysis and interpretation.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities for multidisciplinary audiences.

  • Background in cardiometabolic disease and/or immunology, especially in relation to single-cell data.

  • Experience using or fine-tuning transcriptional foundation models, LLMs, and biomedical knowledge graphs.

  • Familiarity with public data resources (DepMap, Human Cell Atlas, TCGA, GTEx, Tahoe-100M).

  • Experience deploying tools or pipelines via:

    • Interactive portals (e.g., RShiny apps)

    • Workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow)

    • Agentic frameworks
