Role Overview
The ARIA Computational Biology Team is seeking a talented Computational Biologist to advance Amgen’s therapeutic pipeline. You will combine expertise in data science and disease biology to accelerate the identification, prioritization, and validation of transformative therapeutic targets in a cross-functional research environment.
Key Responsibilities
Extract biological insights from multi-modal omics and screening data to characterize disease mechanisms, identify biomarkers, and test hypotheses.
Develop and apply computational platforms to discover, prioritize, and validate drug targets across diverse diseases and therapeutic modalities.
Collaborate closely with Amgen therapeutic area scientists on internal programs and external partnerships.
Partner with data science and IT teams to integrate computational tools into Amgen’s R&D platforms.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related discipline (post-doc experience preferred)
OR
Master’s degree + 3 years of relevant research experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of relevant research experience
Preferred Qualifications
Strong programming skills in Python, R, Linux/Unix; experience with cloud computing, HPC, and Git.
Proven record of creative computational strategy development for complex research challenges.
Expertise in single-cell omics data analysis and interpretation.
Excellent communication and presentation abilities for multidisciplinary audiences.
Background in cardiometabolic disease and/or immunology, especially in relation to single-cell data.
Experience using or fine-tuning transcriptional foundation models, LLMs, and biomedical knowledge graphs.
Familiarity with public data resources (DepMap, Human Cell Atlas, TCGA, GTEx, Tahoe-100M).
Experience deploying tools or pipelines via:
Interactive portals (e.g., RShiny apps)
Workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow)
Agentic frameworks
