Job Title: Organic Chemist

Role Overview:

This role is focused on executing chemical reactions for the synthesis of molecules and compounds according to client specifications, using efficient routes and techniques. The Organic Chemist will ensure the timely and accurate completion of reactions while maintaining safety, quality standards, and IP confidentiality.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis of Target Molecules/Compounds:

    • Set up and execute chemical reactions to synthesize target molecules/compounds as per project requirements.
    • Understand client specifications, including synthetic routes, and adapt methods as necessary.
    • Discuss Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) with the team to ensure safety protocols are followed.
    • Use appropriate reagents and laboratory equipment (glassware, stirrers, vacuum pumps) while maintaining optimal reaction conditions (temperature, pressure).
    • Perform parallel execution of multiple reactions and monitor progress using analytical techniques.
    • Apply workup and purification methods to obtain desired compounds of required quality and purity.
    • Analyze and interpret results from synthesis and report findings to meet client expectations.
  • Safety Management:

    • Enforce good laboratory practices and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
    • Maintain equipment and instruments in accordance with SOPs and general housekeeping norms.
    • Identify and mitigate potential safety risks under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of reactions and research findings in lab notebooks, ensuring data integrity and compliance with client requirements.
    • Adhere to intellectual property (IP) confidentiality and follow related policies.
    • Prepare final reports for clients based on the completed synthesis and analysis.
  • Team Development and Knowledge Sharing:

    • Participate in regular discussions with supervisors and team members to enhance knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical techniques.
    • Conduct regular training sessions to develop the team's technical skills and ensure alignment with productivity and quality standards.
    • Foster a high-morale environment, encouraging team collaboration and growth.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:

    • MSc in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry with 1–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience in organic synthesis and working with synthetic routes.
    • Familiarity with analytical techniques to monitor and evaluate reactions.
    • Ability to interpret and report data accurately.

Key Skills:

  • Chemistry Knowledge: Strong understanding of organic chemistry, particularly synthesis techniques and reaction design.
  • Safety Protocols: Expertise in safety practices and the handling of chemicals and laboratory equipment.
  • Data Integrity & Confidentiality: Ability to ensure compliance with IP protection and maintain the integrity of research data.
  • Resource Management: Ability to optimize the use of reagents, equipment, and time for efficient project completion.

Additional Requirements:

  • Research Publications: Preference for candidates with published research in reputable journals.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and team collaboration.
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting client specifications.
