Role Overview:
The Senior Principal Investigator (SPI) – Process Chemistry leads a team of process development scientists, overseeing scientific strategies, resource allocation, and execution of process chemistry projects. The SPI ensures high-quality research, process development, and scale-up for APIs and preclinical/clinical candidates while fostering scientific excellence and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor process development scientists to achieve project and management objectives efficiently.

  • Allocate resources and prioritize projects to optimize team productivity and scientific outcomes.

  • Provide visionary leadership to multiple project groups in process chemistry development and scale-up technologies.

  • Facilitate structured objective setting, performance appraisal, and career development within the team.

  • Promote a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Scientific & Technical Oversight:

  • Lead process research and development for New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and API candidates.

  • Apply expertise in modern and classical organic chemistry to solve complex chemistry problems proactively.

  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to team members.

  • Support the Head of Process R&D in implementing research strategies and delivering high-quality outcomes.

  • Recommend and implement methods to improve efficiency, productivity, and innovation within the process chemistry function.

Project & Stakeholder Management:

  • Communicate research results, progress, and challenges effectively to management and stakeholders.

  • Ensure alignment of team objectives with organizational goals and project timelines.

  • Manage multiple projects in a matrix organization, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Post-Doctoral degree in Organic Chemistry

Technical & Functional Skills:

  • Expertise in process chemistry, API process development, and scale-up technologies.

  • Proven project management experience in leading process chemistry teams.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing large, multidisciplinary scientific teams.

  • Experience working in a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders and projects.

Behavioral & Leadership Skills:

  • Strategic and analytical thinking with advanced verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and energize scientific teams.

  • High emotional intelligence and capability to manage matrixed teams and sub-functions effectively.
