Job Overview

Exelixis is seeking an experienced Senior Oncology Account Manager to lead strategic commercial execution across the San Diego territory. This senior-level role is ideal for a high-performing oncology sales professional with strong market expertise, established healthcare relationships, and proven success in product launches. The position plays a critical role in driving sustainable growth, advancing appropriate use of oncology therapies, and serving as a trusted partner to healthcare providers and internal stakeholders.

As a senior field leader, you will independently manage complex accounts, contribute to brand and territory strategy, and mentor peers while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, ethics, and professionalism.


Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and optimize strategic account plans across a complex territory to achieve consistent commercial performance.

  • Build and strengthen long-term relationships with oncologists, healthcare providers, integrated delivery networks, and key institutional stakeholders.

  • Deliver high-quality, compliant scientific and clinical discussions to support appropriate use of Exelixis oncology products.

  • Utilize advanced analytics, market intelligence, and competitive insights to inform territory strategy and internal decision-making.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, access, reimbursement, medical, and operational teams to address clinical and access challenges.

  • Represent field insights in brand planning and contribute to tactical and strategic innovation initiatives.

  • Identify emerging trends, unmet clinical needs, and competitive dynamics within the oncology market.

  • Lead pull-through initiatives in partnership with access and reimbursement teams to improve patient access.

  • Serve as a field ambassador for new product launches, pilot programs, and strategic initiatives.

  • Support regional leadership with business planning, training activities, and performance discussions.

  • Mentor and support junior team members by sharing best practices and promoting continuous professional development.

  • Uphold all regulatory, compliance, and ethical standards in customer engagement and internal collaboration.


Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in a related discipline with a minimum of 9 years of relevant professional experience, or

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of oncology sales experience required.

  • Demonstrated success in oncology product launch execution is mandatory.

  • Proven experience managing complex territories and high-value accounts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and influence by presenting complex clinical and scientific information.

  • Advanced business planning, analytical thinking, and strategic execution skills.

  • High level of independence, accountability, and professionalism.

  • Strong collaboration, persuasion, and customer-focused mindset.


Work Environment and Travel

  • Field-based role supported by a modern, collaborative office environment when applicable.

  • Exelixis provides necessary tools and equipment to support productivity and comfort.

  • Requires up to 50% travel within the assigned territory.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: USD 181,500 – 232,000 per year, dependent on geographic location, experience, skills, and internal equity.
