Role Overview

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) acts as the scientific bridge between BMS and the external healthcare community. The role focuses on scientific exchange, medical education, clinical trial support, evidence generation, patient advocacy initiatives, and stakeholder engagement.

The MSL develops peer-to-peer relationships with healthcare professionals and ensures the appropriate and safe use of BMS medicines through scientific discussions and evidence-based medical communication.


Key Responsibilities

1. Thought Leader & HCP Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with:

    • Thought Leaders (TLs)

    • Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)

    • Healthcare Professionals (HCPs)

    • Government healthcare institutions

  • Conduct:

    • One-to-one scientific discussions

    • Group presentations

    • Virtual scientific meetings


2. Scientific Exchange & Medical Education

  • Deliver accurate scientific information

  • Discuss:

    • Disease management strategies

    • Clinical evidence

    • BMS products

    • Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) data

  • Respond to unsolicited medical inquiries

  • Support evidence-based clinical decision-making


3. Territory Medical Planning

  • Develop territory-specific medical plans

  • Create Thought Leader engagement plans

  • Support key account medical strategies

  • Align activities with country medical objectives


4. Medical Insights Generation

  • Gather insights from physicians and healthcare stakeholders

  • Identify unmet medical needs

  • Monitor treatment trends

  • Share field insights with Medical Affairs and Commercial teams


5. Clinical Trial Support

  • Support:

    • Interventional Studies

    • Non-Interventional Research (NIR)

    • CRO-sponsored studies

  • Assist with:

    • Site identification

    • Site feasibility assessments

    • Patient recruitment support

    • Investigator engagement


6. Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR)

  • Support physicians during ISR submissions

  • Facilitate scientific discussions

  • Assist with study-related processes as per company guidance


7. Patient Advocacy Programs

  • Collaborate with Patient Advocacy Groups

  • Support patient awareness initiatives

  • Contribute to educational material development

  • Promote patient-focused healthcare initiatives


8. Internal Scientific Support

Provide scientific support to:

  • Commercial Teams

  • Regulatory Affairs

  • Pharmacovigilance

  • Legal Teams

  • Market Access Teams

  • HEOR Teams

Activities include:

  • Product training

  • Disease-area education

  • Scientific updates


9. Pharmacovigilance & Compliance

  • Report Adverse Events (AEs)

  • Ensure compliance with BMS SOPs

  • Support patient safety activities

  • Maintain ethical scientific engagement practices

Ideal Candidate Profile
