Work Pattern:

Field-based with approximately 80% travel (primarily within assigned geography, occasional travel outside territory)


Position Summary:

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) plays a critical role in providing fair, balanced, and objective scientific information and education to healthcare opinion leaders (OLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), and internal partners. This role requires deep scientific and clinical expertise in dermatology/immunology and the ability to stay current with scientific advancements, support research initiatives, and develop strong external relationships. The Sr. MSL is responsible for managing a geographic territory and executing strategic plans to deliver impactful scientific communications and collaborations.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Territory Management

  • Develop and maintain a strategic field plan for the assigned territory.

  • Build and nurture relationships with identified OLs, HCPs (MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs, Pharm.Ds, biocoordinators), institutions, and community practices.

  • Prioritize and execute reactive and proactive outreach aligned with legal/compliance guidelines.

  • Present scientific data tailored to audience needs, integrating real-world evidence into practice.

Research Support & Scientific Leadership

  • Leverage knowledge of clinical trials (company/investigator-sponsored) and competitor landscape.

  • Engage with external investigators on unsolicited research inquiries; act as liaison to R&D, Medical Affairs, and operations.

  • Provide clinical trial support including site identification, issue resolution, and participation in site initiation and investigator meetings.

  • Lead at least one scientific or strategic Immunology project, identifying educational gaps and elevating team knowledge.

Scientific Communication & Insight Sharing

  • Participate actively in team calls, journal clubs, and trainings.

  • Attend and lead at scientific conferences, congresses, advisory boards, and investigator meetings.

  • Document, share, and synthesize medical insights internally and externally.

  • Represent J&J in speaking engagements and scientific discussions.

Internal Collaboration & Operations

  • Perform all administrative duties (expense reports, documentation) accurately and timely.

  • Support sales training initiatives and improve competencies of field personnel.

  • Collaborate routinely with field partners and Immunology MSL teams.

  • Lead or contribute to large-scale cross-functional projects.

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory guidelines, company policies, and Medical Affairs SOPs.


Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree required: PharmD, PhD, MD, NP, PA or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical experience in Therapeutic Area (TA).

  • Minimum 3 years of MSL experience or related clinical/research/pharma experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 75-80%, including overnight and occasional weekend travel.

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with clean driving record.

  • Residency within the assigned territory (preferably near Cincinnati or Columbus, OH).

Preferred

  • Experience/knowledge in Dermatology or Immunology Therapeutic Area.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and remote communication technologies.


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Range: $137,000 to $235,750

  • Eligibility for a company car via the company’s FLEET program.
