Role Overview:
Abbott Nutrition is seeking a Senior Medical Safety Analyst to provide expert medical and toxicological guidance on ingredient and finished product safety. This role independently leads advanced safety assessments, interprets emerging scientific risks, and ensures regulatory and scientific compliance across the global innovation and food safety programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Safety & Risk Assessment:

  • Lead collection, evaluation, and interpretation of safety-related data, including chemical contaminants, allergens, and microorganisms.

  • Conduct advanced risk assessments for ingredients and finished products using health-based guidance (e.g., EFSA, JECFA, EPA, ATSDR, Codex).

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on food safety workstreams, influencing risk management decisions and ensuring compliance with scientific and regulatory standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with R&D, quality, regulatory, and global nutrition teams to provide medical safety expertise.

  • Communicate complex medical, toxicological, and safety data effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Represent the Medical Safety & Surveillance (MSS) function on internal and external initiatives related to nutrition product safety.

Scientific & Regulatory Leadership:

  • Stay current on evolving scientific literature and global regulatory guidance impacting consumer safety.

  • Develop, optimize, and standardize medical safety tools, templates, and processes to improve consistency and efficiency in MSS deliverables.

  • Prepare high-quality medical safety assessments, analyses, and reports for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health, food, or life sciences field (e.g., toxicology, food science, dietetics, human nutrition).

  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant industry experience in food safety, toxicology, or medical risk assessment.

  • Strong understanding of toxicological principles and risk assessment frameworks.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex scientific information to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent industry/research experience.

  • Proven application of toxicology and food safety principles in industry.

  • Familiarity with nutritional products, health-based guidance values, and global regulatory frameworks.

  • Knowledge of domestic and international food and ingredient safety regulations and guidelines.

Work Environment:

  • Onsite role based in Columbus, Ohio (not remote).

  • Base pay: $78,000 – $156,000 (location-dependent).
