Job Summary:

The Senior Medical Editor is responsible for copy editing, quality control, and project leadership of medical writing deliverables. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains high editorial quality, provides technical support, and mentors junior staff.


Key Responsibilities:

Editorial & Quality Control:

  • Copyedit assigned documents using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style according to AMA Manual of Style or custom style guidelines.

  • Perform quality review of documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with sponsor and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure all deliverables meet FDA, EU, and other relevant regulatory guidelines and industry standards.

Project Management & Leadership:

  • Monitor timelines and budgets for assigned projects; communicate risks to lead medical writer, project manager, or supervisor.

  • Serve as project lead for complex or large medical writing projects, including scheduling meetings, organizing requirements, and distributing information to the editorial team.

  • Advise medical writers, medical editors, and study teams on quality review, editorial standards, and compilation of deliverables.

  • Provide training and mentoring to junior staff and other members of the global medical writing team.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Represent the editorial group in study teams, cross-departmental projects, and medical writing activities.

  • Provide technical support and expertise as needed.

  • Contribute to the development of process improvement tools and revision of internal policies affecting editorial work.

  • Participate as a member of the medical writing team for projects, providing progress updates to lead medical writer.

Compliance & Process Adherence:

  • Manage assigned projects according to medical writing SOPs and client standards.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Maintain adherence to internal checklists, best practices, and established guidelines for medical writing.
