Job Overview
athenahealth is seeking a Senior Medical Coding Analyst to support medical coding operations within its Service Delivery team.
The role focuses on accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance, analyzing trends, and supporting process improvements. The position requires experience in both ambulatory and inpatient coding environments along with strong ownership and adaptability in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Coding Operations
Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD and CPT standards.
Ensure proper coding and sequencing in compliance with regulations.
Support seamless delivery of medical coding services to clients.
Data Analysis & Trend Identification
Identify and quantify work trends.
Perform root cause analysis on coding and operational issues.
Provide insights for process improvements.
Special Projects
Take ownership of assigned projects.
Support initiatives aimed at improving coding quality and efficiency.
Compliance & Quality
Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and coding standards.
Maintain high accuracy and quality in coding deliverables.
Required Skills
Medical Coding Expertise
Strong knowledge of ICD and CPT coding systems.
Experience in ambulatory and inpatient coding.
Understanding of medical coding workflows and compliance.
Certifications
CPC or CCS certification required.
Analytical & Problem-Solving
Strong analytical and root cause analysis skills.
Ability to identify trends and suggest improvements.
