Job Overview
Guidehouse is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Medical Coder specializing in Inpatient Diagnosis Related Group (IP DRG) coding. The role involves reviewing clinical documentation, assigning accurate ICD-10 codes, and determining appropriate DRGs while ensuring compliance with regulatory and reimbursement requirements. The ideal candidate will have expertise in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems and experience assigning both MS-DRG and APR-DRG classifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient patient records and clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.

  • Assign appropriate MS-DRG and APR-DRG classifications according to regulatory and payer guidelines.

  • Ensure compliance with coding standards, reimbursement regulations, and healthcare documentation requirements.

  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify incomplete or unclear documentation.

  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when reviewing patient records.

  • Participate in quality assurance activities and coding audits to maintain coding standards.

  • Work independently while meeting project timelines and productivity targets.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.

  • Expertise in assigning MS-DRG and APR-DRG classifications.

  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

  • Experience using coding software or encoder tools such as 3M, TruCode, or Optum.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.

  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as EPIC, Cerner, or similar platforms.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation review skills.

Work Responsibilities
