About the Role:

Novartis is undergoing a bold digital transformation. Within this journey, the Data Operations group (part of BSI) is central to enabling Novartis’ data strategy by turning 20+ years of untapped data into actionable, strategic insights.

As a Senior Manager – Data Solutions, you will lead the design and optimization of scalable data pipelines, ensure robust data infrastructure, and collaborate across functions to support data-driven decisions. This role is ideal for experienced data engineers who are skilled in ETL, Databricks, Snowflake SQL, and PySpark, and passionate about digital innovation in the pharmaceutical domain.


Key Responsibilities:

🛠 Data Engineering & Development

  • Design, implement, and manage scalable ETL pipelines.

  • Utilize Databricks for developing and optimizing workflows.

  • Build robust data models to support analytics and reporting.

  • Write and maintain complex SQL queries for transformation tasks.

  • Develop big data solutions using PySpark.

  • Perform data integration from diverse sources ensuring consistency and reliability.

📈 Quality, Performance & Compliance

  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes.

  • Optimize performance of ETL and data storage solutions.

  • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

🤝 Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data needs.

  • Document data models, pipelines, processes, and best practices.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and recommend modern practices or tools.


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:

    • Computer Science

    • Engineering

    • Information Systems

    • Or related field


Experience & Skills:

Essential:

  • 8+ years in a global organization as a:

    • Data Engineer

    • Data Steward

    • Data Modeler

    • Or Data Scientist

  • Proficiency with:

    • ETL tools

    • SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle)

    • Databricks

    • PySpark

    • Snowflake

  • Experience working in Pharma/Life Sciences with domain knowledge in:

    • Pharma R&D

    • Manufacturing / Supply Chain / Procurement

    • Marketing & Sales

  • Hands-on with Git / Bitbucket

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (with Databricks)

  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Exposure to real-time data streaming

  • Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices

  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
