Job Overview

ICON is seeking an experienced Senior Lead Clinical Data Science Programmer to lead and advance data science programming activities for global clinical trials. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving complex data programming strategies, ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality statistical insights that support clinical decision-making and regulatory submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and validation of clinical data science programming solutions, including data integration, statistical analysis, and regulatory reporting

  • Provide technical and people leadership by managing, mentoring, and developing a team of clinical data programmers

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including clinical research, biostatistics, and data management to define data requirements and programming specifications

  • Oversee data quality assurance, validation, and verification processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of clinical trial data

  • Apply advanced statistical methodologies and data visualization techniques to analyze complex datasets and generate actionable clinical insights

  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal programming best practices

  • Stay informed on emerging trends in clinical data science, analytics, and technology, recommending innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and outcomes

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related scientific discipline

  • 8–12 years of progressive experience in clinical data programming or clinical data science within a CRO or pharmaceutical environment

  • Strong expertise in SAS, R, and/or Python, with hands-on experience in statistical analysis and clinical trial data workflows

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing programming teams in a global clinical research setting

  • Proven ability to design and implement complex data analysis, integration, and visualization solutions

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate data insights into business and clinical value
