Role Overview

The Senior Coder is responsible for analyzing patient information and accurately converting it into medical codes. The role ensures coding accuracy to avoid billing denials, validates documentation for Same Day with Surgery codes, and maintains up-to-date coding knowledge and credentials.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze patient records and convert clinical information into medical codes.

  • Ensure accurate coding to prevent billing denials.

  • Validate documentation supporting Same Day with Surgery codes based on medical decision-making or time.

  • Maintain current knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding principles and guidelines.

  • Follow federal, state, and payor-specific regulations related to coding and billing.


Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in relevant coding specialty, specifically in Facility Surgery coding or Same Day Surgery.

  • Mandatory certifications: CPC, CCS, or COC (CPC ‘A’ must be removed).

  • Knowledge of NCCI edits and CMS guidelines.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.


Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office/Excel.

  • Experience with coding software or encoders (3M, Trucode, Optum).

  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner, etc.).

  • Knowledge of multiple coding specialties, including E&M IP/OP.
