Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist – UCLA Health

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Salary Range: $60.71 – $78.17/hour
Employment Type: Full-time, Staff – Career

Job Summary:

UCLA Health is seeking an experienced Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist to lead and enhance diagnostic laboratory practices through technical consultation, quality assurance, and innovation. This high-impact role requires clinical expertise in laboratory medicine to support UCLA’s mission of excellence in patient care and diagnostics. Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technical consultant and subject matter expert for laboratory testing procedures

  • Investigate, develop, and validate new or modified clinical testing protocols

  • Oversee quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and proficiency testing (PT) activities

  • Evaluate staff training needs and conduct competency assessments

  • Author and maintain laboratory SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)

  • Develop and implement technical training materials and protocols

  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and state regulatory standards


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license (active)

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, biology, or a related science field

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in clinical laboratory operations

  • Strong background in diagnostic testing, quality management, and lab instrumentation

  • Excellent knowledge of lab regulations (CLIA, CAP, etc.) and process improvement

  • Demonstrated experience in training and SOP documentation

  • Exceptional communication and team leadership skills
