About the Role

Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate – Statistical Programming Innovation, a key role within the Center for Observational Research (CfOR). This position is designed for professionals who excel in developing programming efficiencies, automation frameworks, and scalable tools that enhance productivity across real-world data (RWD) analytics teams.

This is not a traditional statistical programming role. It focuses on building systems, optimizing workflows, and creating innovative programming solutions, rather than routine statistical tasks.

Amgen’s mission is to serve patients living with serious medical conditions. The Programming Innovations Team within CfOR plays a crucial role by designing and maintaining advanced programming capabilities that support the full lifecycle of Amgen’s therapies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain programming tools that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across CfOR.

  • Lead end-to-end solution development including requirement gathering, design, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Identify process gaps and create modern, scalable programming prototypes.

  • Integrate contributions from cross-functional programming teams into centralized solutions.

  • Automate repetitive tasks and establish standards for reusable, modular code.

  • Leverage AI and machine learning technologies, including the creation of AI copilots or agents for workflow optimization.

  • Maintain structured documentation, training content, and user guides for long-term adoption.

  • Evaluate and enhance existing tools for performance, security, and compliance.

  • Collaborate with global teams to align innovations with business and technical priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Life Sciences, or a relevant field.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in statistical programming, data engineering, or software development in a life sciences or research environment.

  • Strong proficiency in SAS and/or R, along with experience in SQL and Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.

  • Experience working within a structured Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

  • Hands-on experience with real-world healthcare datasets including claims (MarketScan, Optum Clinformatics, Medicare) and EHR databases (OptumEHR PanTher, Flatiron, CPRD, MDV).

  • Knowledge of common data model frameworks such as CDISC.

  • Proficiency in version control tools such as Git.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks, including OpenAI API or custom model development.

  • Experience building AI-driven programming assistants or copilots.

  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and collaborative development environments.
