Role Overview

The Senior Analyst – Forecasting Rare Disease will partner with the GIBEx/GA&I Forecast Leader, Portfolio Heads, and Commercial teams to deliver accurate revenue, volume, and patient forecasts for strategic brands and early-stage assets.

This role is critical to data-driven decision-making, providing insights for portfolio prioritization, resource allocation, and market strategy. The Senior Analyst translates clinical, epidemiological, and commercial data into actionable forecasts that guide enterprise-wide planning and long-term growth strategies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely and robust demand forecasts across multiple rare disease indications and markets, documenting assumptions and confidence levels.

  • Support portfolio assessment, long-term and mid-term planning, and prioritization for rare disease and orphan drug portfolios.

  • Facilitate cross-functional discussions at program and portfolio levels to align forecasts with strategic objectives.

  • Defend forecast methodology, assumptions, and outcomes to senior stakeholders.

  • Ensure forecast robustness by leveraging industry-leading data sources, statistical modeling, and sensitivity analyses.

  • Develop new product introduction forecasts for both short-term and long-term planning.

  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, integrating advanced forecasting methodologies, predictive analytics, Monte Carlo simulations, and AI/ML tools.

  • Build dashboards, business cases, and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making.

  • For Global forecasts: develop models for pipeline, early assets, lifecycle management, and business development.

  • For US forecasts: support S&OP processes and develop weekly, monthly, and yearly volume-to-revenue models.


Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, pharmacy, biotechnology, or a related field.

  • Advanced degrees (PhD, MBA, MSc) are preferred.


Experience & Skills Required

  • 7–10 years of direct pharmaceutical forecasting experience with deep expertise in techniques, models, and approaches.

  • Strong understanding of rare diseases and orphan drug portfolios, including patient flow, treatment pathways, and market dynamics.

  • Experience integrating market research, epidemiological data, and commercial insights into forecast assumptions.

  • Proficiency with pharmaceutical data sources such as IQVIA MIDAS, DDD NPA, Monthly Xponent, Truven, MarketScan; US forecasting experience with TRx/NBRx/NRx data preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills, financial modeling, and Excel proficiency.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of interfacing confidently with global stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in rare disease portfolio prioritization and forecasting within AstraZeneca or similar organizations.

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical forecasting methods, AI/ML, and automation.

  • Experience with Power Apps, Power BI, and advanced reporting tools.
