This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to support a Family Medicine provider in a remote Scribe position with West Virginia University Hospitals (WVUH). Below is a summary of the key details for the role:

Job Overview:

  • Position Type: Remote Scribe for Family Medicine provider.
  • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20 hours.
  • Shift: Day (United States of America).
  • Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt.
  • Cost Center: 8815 UHA Scribes.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Documentation: Transcribing physician’s dictation and activities into the electronic medical record (EMR), including history of present illness, medical history, procedures, and consultations.
  • Patient Interaction: Accompanying the physician in the patient exam area, transcribing patient history and exam findings.
  • Data Management: Gathering and organizing laboratory results, radiology results, and other medical data for physician review, ensuring the information is entered into the medical record only after the physician’s approval.
  • Communication: Assisting in communication related to patient care, including coordinating with the healthcare team and answering calls for the physician.
  • Limitations: Scribes cannot provide verbal orders, relay medical advice, or communicate medical information directly with patients or families.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • The position may require sitting for extended periods and the ability to manage data entry tasks efficiently.
  • The work environment is remote, providing flexibility while supporting the Family Medicine provider.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Medical Terminology: A strong understanding of medical terminology and abbreviations is essential.
  • Typing Skills: Typing speed of 50 words per minute is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Communication and Organizational Skills: Essential for coordinating with healthcare team members and managing patient care flow.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Background Check: West Virginia state criminal background check required (Federal background check may be needed for DHHR BMS regulated areas).

Schedule Availability:

  • Applicants must have open availability on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as morning availability on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
