Position Overview:

We are looking for a Research Scientist (L1/L2) in Synthesis to join our team at Jubilant Biosys. The role will involve leading the synthesis, purification, and characterization of chemical intermediates for drug discovery. You will be working with a team of chemists, driving chemistry projects, and contributing to the design and development of novel chemical entities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Synthesize, purify, and characterize chemical intermediates for drug discovery.
  • Lead a team of 3-8 chemists to deliver small to large quantities of novel chemical entities.
  • Work collaboratively to drive chemistry projects forward and meet project milestones.
  • Ensure safe laboratory practices at all times.
  • Apply knowledge of basic and advanced organic chemistry to solve complex synthesis challenges.
  • Utilize retrosynthetic analysis and route design for project synthesis.
  • Manage functional group conversions and multi-step syntheses effectively.
  • Troubleshoot complex reactions, including pyrophoric reactions, and handle purification and extraction processes.
  • Perform chiral chemistry work, including diastereomer separation.
  • Use analytical techniques (HPLC, NMR, IR, Mass Spectrometry) for data analysis.
  • Write and review electronic lab notebooks, reports, patents, and scientific manuscripts.
  • Conduct literature searches using tools like Reaxys and SciFinder.
  • Manage chemical ordering, lab inventory, and assist in maintaining the lab’s workflow.
  • Foster a dynamic research environment with enthusiasm for creative problem solving and team leadership.
  • Communicate and present findings clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead by example to motivate team members, ensuring high-quality output and continuous learning.

Person Profile:

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field (Post-doctorate experience is a plus).

Experience:

  • 1-5 years of industry or post-doctoral experience in organic chemistry or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with synthesis, purification, and characterization techniques.
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience in leading a team of chemists.

Skills:

  • Strong expertise in organic chemistry, functional group transformations, multi-step synthesis, and retrosynthetic analysis.
  • Experience with pyrophoric reactions, chiral chemistry, and purification techniques.
  • Knowledge of HPLC, NMR, IR, and Mass Spectrometry data analysis.
  • Proficient in using Reaxys, SciFinder, and similar literature search databases.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and a collaborative, results-driven attitude.
