Job Summary

We are seeking a Research Scientist (or Senior Research Scientist) to join our Synthesis Department at Jubilant Biosys. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to the synthesis, purification, and characterization of chemical intermediates and novel chemical entities aimed at drug discovery. The individual will work collaboratively within a team, ensuring safe laboratory practices, while delivering high-quality chemistry outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Synthesis and Characterization: Synthesize, purify, and characterize novel chemical compounds and intermediates for drug discovery.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of 3-8 chemists, providing guidance on reaction mechanisms and ensuring effective progress of projects.
  • Chemical Expertise: Possess in-depth knowledge of organic chemistry, functional group transformations, and multi-step synthesis. Demonstrate expertise in retrosynthetic analysis and route design.
  • Research and Troubleshooting: Tackle challenging pyrophoric reactions, chiral chemistry, diastereomer separations, purification, and extraction problems.
  • Instrument Proficiency: Use techniques such as (Prep)-HPLC, NMR, IR, and Mass Spectrometry for analyzing compounds.
  • Documentation: Review and maintain electronic lab notebooks; contribute to writing reports, patents, and manuscripts.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure safe laboratory practices are followed in all experiments and chemical handling.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to drive chemistry projects forward and ensure project timelines are met.
  • Literature Research: Conduct literature searches using tools such as Reaxys/Scifinder for continuous learning and to support project development.

Qualifications

  • Education: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or related field, or Post Doctoral research experience.
  • Experience: 1-5 years of industry or post-doctoral experience in organic chemistry, particularly in chemical synthesis and research.
  • Skills & Expertise:
    • Strong background in synthetic chemistry, including multi-step reactions.
    • Expertise in working with pyrophoric reactions and troubleshooting synthesis issues.
    • Proficiency in analytical techniques (NMR, IR, Mass Spectrometry, Prep-HPLC).
    • Experience leading a small team of chemists, with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with literature databases such as Reaxys and Scifinder.
    • Ability to write scientific reports, patents, and manuscripts.
