Research Program Manager – Surgery (UCSF, San Francisco, CA)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Mount Zion Campus)
Employment Type: Full-Time (100%)
Salary Range: $84,400 - $133,800 per year
Work Style: Fully On-Site
Shift: Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 6 PM

Job Overview:

The Department of Surgery at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) is seeking a Research Program Manager to oversee operational and functional activities within the division’s research program. This role involves research administration, grant coordination, budget management, clinical trial oversight, and event organization. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Chief of Surgery at ZSFG to implement key research initiatives and secure grant funding to expand the division’s research footprint.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Administration & Grant Management:

  • Coordinate grant submissions, draft budgets, and monitor grant expenditures.
  • Manage communications and outreach for funding opportunities and clinical trials.
  • Oversee the execution and compliance of clinical trials and enrollment.
  • Assist in securing additional research funding and expanding the program’s impact.

Program Coordination & Development:

  • Develop and organize research-focused events, conferences, and public forums.
  • Implement key research initiatives under the direction of the Chief of Surgery.
  • Support research infrastructure and staffing in collaboration with the Administrative Director.

Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance:

  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and trainees to ensure research goals align with institutional objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, research protocols, and funding guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience.
    • Background in academic research and research program management.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, think creatively, and work independently.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in a related field.
  • Experience with grant administration, budgeting, and clinical trial management.
