Role Overview

The Process Chemist will be responsible for executing synthetic chemistry reactions in alignment with project requirements. The role involves reaction setup, work-up, purification, analytical coordination, and documentation while strictly adhering to EHS, data integrity, and quality standards.

This position is ideal for candidates with a strong academic foundation in chemistry and hands-on laboratory experience seeking career growth in process development within a CRO/CRDMO environment.


Key Responsibilities

Synthetic Chemistry & Laboratory Operations

  • Perform organic synthesis reactions as per project protocols

  • Conduct reaction work-ups and purify compounds using column chromatography, crystallization, recrystallization, preparative TLC, and related techniques

  • Operate laboratory instruments and equipment safely and efficiently

  • Coordinate sample submission for analytical testing and record results accurately

  • Pack and prepare samples appropriately for shipment

Documentation & Data Integrity

  • Record experimental observations, reaction outcomes, and resource utilization in laboratory notebooks or electronic notebooks (eLN)

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with data integrity guidelines

  • Update supervisors or group leaders on project progress and technical outcomes

Equipment & Compliance Management

  • Ensure instruments are calibrated, maintained, and clean prior to use

  • Report equipment breakdowns to maintenance teams promptly

  • Review and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals handled

  • Follow emergency response procedures in case of chemical spills, leakage, or fire

  • Ensure proper waste segregation in accordance with EHS norms

Safety & Quality Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to Syngene’s safety protocols, SOPs, and quality standards

  • Promote an EHS-driven culture within laboratory operations

  • Complete all mandatory safety, data integrity, and compliance training on time

  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary research data


Mandatory Safety Expectations

  • Demonstrate full adherence to safe laboratory practices

  • Contribute to development of safe operational systems and compliance standards

  • Promote environmental, health, and safety accountability at all times

  • Ensure safety of self and team members in laboratory or plant settings


Educational Qualification

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry or related discipline


Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Practical experience in synthetic organic chemistry techniques

  • Knowledge of purification and separation methodologies

  • Understanding of laboratory safety protocols and EHS compliance

  • Strong documentation and data integrity practices
